The humidity in basements tend to be higher since the air is heavier due to the weight of moisture and hence moves into lower areas and will not go out of the basement even when the outside humidity goes low. Hence humidity in the basement will always be on a higher side.
What are Basement dehumidifiers?
Basement de humidifiers are normal condensation or desiccant de humidifiers with a higher capacity of dehumidification. For condensation type basement dehumidifier, the collected water has to be pumped to the ground level or has to be manually removed when the water tray is full. For desiccant type basement dehumidifier, the wet air has to be directed above the ground level to a safe distance so that the wet air does not get redirected back to the basement.
Selection of capacity of basement de humidifier
For calculation of required capacity of dehumidification page, please use our excel sheet for calculation of de-humidification capacity. This sheet is for a closed type of areas and rooms. You need to collect present humidity levels and present temperature for making the calculation.
Selection of type of basement de humidifier
For temperature above 10°C it is preferred to use condensation type de humidifier. For temperature below 10°C, it is best to use desiccant type de humidifier. Also If you have difficulty is pumping out the collected water from a condensation type de humidifier you may use desiccant type dehumidifier. However these types will produce slight temperature and may tend to increase the temperature of the room slightly.
Installation of basement de humidifier
If you are using a condensation type dehumidifier for the basement, it is better to buy the water pump (optional) also so that the condensed water can be pumped to the ground level. This type of basement de humidifier can be simply plugged in and will start working.
A condensation type of basement de humidifier will require more installation procedures in terms of installation of the air hose. The wet air is segregated from the dry air and this needs to be sent out of the room to the ground level. Hence a long flexible pipe (supplied by us as an optional item) has to be installed for this purpose.
If the dehumidifier is of high capacity it is also possible to install the device in the ground level and install intake and outlet pipes to the basement.
